featuring the wonderful Freddie Mercury through the years. I created this on unframed A2 Daler Rowney Aquarelle 300gsm quality textured paper and finished with pen and watercolour. Prints are available in a choice of sizes and are signed on the back.
I could not get the idea of ‘a party of Freddies’ out of my head so I had to start drawing. Covering the span of his amazing career from ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ through ‘I Want to Break Free’ and ‘Those Were The Days of Our Lives’, Freddie entertained us and inspired us. I tried to imagine his most iconic looks all at one party together…… and this is the result.
Queen and Freddie’s music have been in my life for as long as i can remember. My older sister had all the albums, and their music was always in the background somewhere in the house. With his energy, dress sense and flamboyance he was an obvious choice for the 2nd of my ‘Party of’ pictures. It was a real labour of love as i immersed myself into everything Freddie. Always listening to his music whilst planning, sketching, rubbing out and starting again ! I also read the Biography ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Lesley Ann Jones. I couldn’t resist drawing him in his wig and mini skirt !
You could choose the full size A2 (16.5 x 25.4 inch) Giclee option – virtually identical to the original. To qualify for the title of a “fine art giclée print” it has to be made on archival quality coated paper, and printed with pigment based archival inks, which are UV stable. The quality of the paper or canvas used in a giclee print is very important. Fine art paper mills have been producing mould made artist papers for over 435 years, have an extensive range of fine art papers used in giclee printing. The final result will be a superb giclee print. We have selected the Enhanced Velvet, 255 gsm – Matt Textured. This is a professional fine art paper made at St Cuthberts Mill in Somerset. It has a velvety mid textured surface, using natural woollen felts and is 100% cotton. This archival grade paper exhibits high whiteness, without the use of optical brightening agents and is buffered with calcium carbonate to combat acid attack that finished prints may encounter from air pollution.
Giclee prints are rolled into a sturdy protective postal tube to be shipped.
I have sketched, drawn and painted things for as long as i can remember. Its been the one continuous life long hobby for me.....and now its my day job.
Growing up on the outskirts of London i was lucky that i could jump on a train and get into the centre to visit all of the galleries and museums quite frequently. I spent many afternoons sketching sculptures and famous works of art.
Formal Art study ended for me after A levels (6th form) i didn't feel engaged for some reason. I had won the school art competition and i guess i must have felt like i had reached my zenith ! Other things then filled my life but i always loved everything that is art.
I love many different genres of music, literature, films, nature and of course Art in all of its forms. What i most admire is how much effort all of the people involved have expended trying to create something different. Some have given their whole lives at great personal expense in the pursuit for something new.
